The Prescott Neighborhood

During the 30’s–60’s the culture and music scene of The Prescott was rich and lively. Top blues and jazz performers were pulled from across the U.S to perform in the numerous and well known clubs and theaters. Many folks are again gravitating to the Prescott neighborhood for its rich cultural history mixed with the young new art edge of the modern era.

The streets of The Prescott are lined with beautiful Victorian buildings, many which have been renovated keeping their outside historical charm with inside modern amenities for todays current style of living. The Prescott also stages hip contemporary Live/Work Lofts and coming 2014, a slew of very cool modern apartments rebuilt into a great old brick warehouse.

Support an ECO-friendly lifestyle and ride your bike along the newly renovated and landscaped Mandela Parkway or just take a relaxing walk before and after work to the 7th st BART station. On your way, stop by the small but sweet Mandela grocery cooperative and pick up your organic and locally produced goods. The Prescott also has a few great classic and new restaurants like Tanya Holland’s sought after Brown Sugar Kitchen.

One of the many projects birthed from the recent West Oakland districts revitalizing plan is the beautifully maintained 10 acre Raimondi Park, which has a kiddies play ground and some of Oakland’s most sought after soccer, football and baseball fields! Don’t forget to visit one of the many art studios or the famous Crucible’s, industrial and fine arts school.

Just a hop skip and a jump to the shopping and dining districts of Old Oakland, Jack London Square and The Uptown, The Prescott with its original historic charm and community, meshed with a hip urban vibe is a great new up and coming neighborhood to reside in.

"There is an influx of people enjoying the outdoors, running, walking their dogs and socializing. West Oakland is returning to its roots as a family neighborhood albeit in a more gentrified manner and I am enjoying being here to witness the transformation."
